Computer Homework

Published by nucklearknight under Computers Edit This

Well I just finished my computer homework. It gave me a bit of trouble, mainly cause I no longer pay attention in class and just go on Facebook the entire time. Hopefully next time I’m in a computer class I pay more attention. After all, it is my major. Anyways heres the code I wrote. It’s a c-shell application for unix where it monitors how many users are logged on ever minute for 15 minutes. It displays the number and at the end it displays the fewest number of users on the server. Continue Reading »

San Francisco Heat

Published by nucklearknight under My Day Edit This

So I decided to start posting on my blog again. I don’t know how long my interest will last but hopefully it will last at least as long as it did last time. It’s 5 o’clock and it’s currently 82 degreese in San Francisco, the fog city. This past weekend and now this week it’s been increasingly hot. Funny thing is that it’s supposed to be 80 tomorrow and then 65 on Wednesday. So when the middle of the week comes by we should be back to normal :/It’s OK though cause it’s nice to have a couple of hot days now and again. I’m currently in my Intro To Software Development class and I’m very uncomfortable since it’s so hot and everybody is on computers that are giving off heat. :(

HUGE DAY!

Published by nucklearknight under My Day Edit This

Well not really really huge. Just got quite a few things to do. And it’s actually a nice day too! Well that is, in my opinion. It’s cloudy and looks like rain. Anyways I am soon departing to go to the post office to get my passport. That way I can run off to Canada and Tijuana whenever I feel like it! Also I feel that it is a good thing to have on hand…

After that I’m going to the good old DMV where I will be taking my permit test at last. I realized how easy it is get. All I have to do is pass a vision test a writen test. I took all the practice tests online and they were really easy so I don’t think it will be a problem. Then I’ll be able to legally practice driving! Fun! Plus I told Katie I was going to start getting my licence durring break and well, looks like I am. And hey, if I get enough practice in, maybe I can get my licence on Saturday! Doubt that will happen though :p

Lastly I need to go to costco to get supplies for school and also a small desk fan since the one I have is falling apart and anticipate to die on me very very soon. So I’ll stock up on random, hopefully healthy foods, a crapload of cup of noodles, candy, and water. Maybe I’ll throw some drink in there.

Oh and if I haven’t mentioned it already I got my dual screens set up but my comptuer is acting up as far as cell phone usb drivers are concerned. I’m just going to wait till I get back to my dorm to install them and I’ll take pictures with my webcam soon. So hang in there.

Having Fun at Applebees!

Well me and some friends, namely Zack decided to make a movie that illustrates how much fun we have at Applebees. Well, sort of. Apparently there are commercials on TV where people send in videos about how much fun they have whilst dining at Applebees and we decided to make our own. So, in short, we did. It was tricky at first but we got a good waitress who cooperated with us. How nice of her! Food was good too as a matter of a fact. Well here’s the finished product for your viewing pleasure.

The Office: The Dual

I just watched the most recent episode of The Office. If you haven’t seen it your probably shouldn’t read this. Go watch it, then come back here and read this. I thought it was fantastic and I can’t wait for the next one. It was great how Andy and Dwight were going to fight and I thought Andy was going to have an outburst and punch through another wall. He instead pulled out the Prias sneak attack and believe me, they are so silent it’s creepy. I almost got run over that same way! Not really though :p

I really want to see what happens next! I think that Andy and Dwight now both hate Angela since she lied to both of them. Dwigt will probably show his anger in a vary strange form that he learned as a schrute boy. Andy will probably just quietly stew by himself and end up exploding and killing somebody.

Gran Torino

So I watched Gran Torino today. I was really excited to watch it since it has Clint Eastwood in it and I think he’s an awesome actor and a total badass. Ever since The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly he’s been a totally rad actor. However this movie left me slightly disappointied at the end. I don’t want to give anything away, I just was a bit dissapointed with the ending. However it was still a great movie since the entire thing was well shot and had a fantastic plot. Clint put on a great performance as usual and I was truely impressed. Though there was a lot of racist talk in it, the movie was still fantastic.

How to Install Windows 7

Many of you might have heard of Windows 7 beta being released to the public. It’s actually very cool and  a lot of people use it as their primary operating system now. It’s a lot snappier than Vista and doesn’t require such a powerful machine to run. If your into Windows I highly recommend you pick up a copy and try it out. However, installing it can be a bit of a hassle.

First you need to get the beta. Go here and READ IT. It tells you stuff like the fact that the beta will expire in August and you won’t be able to use it anymore. So keep the copy of Vista or XP you already have. Then go ahead and download it. If you don’t know what system you have I recommend the 32bit version. Now after downloading it you need to burn it to a DVD using burning software. Make sure your optical drive is capable of burning CD’s. Then do a quick google on the software your will use. I’m sure you’ll find directions on how to burn an ISO image onto a disk. For NERO all you have to do is open “Nero Burning Rom” and the select the “Open” option and select the ISO and then click burn. For most software it’s probably that easy.

Once you have the image on a disk you have to face a real challenge. Do you want to erase your entire disk and install windows 7 over it? This is probably the easiest way, and if you don’t use a lot of old programs you can easily get away with it. If a program doesn’t work in Windows 7, right-click it, and select “Run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista/XP” and you should be fine. However if you have disk partitioning software such as “Partition Magic 8″ then you can break off a chunk  at the end of your drive. You’ll need about 12gb but I recommend 20.

From there just pop the disk in and boot from it. You have to make sure your computer is set to boot from a CD/DVD in the BIOS. Tap F2 or F12 or whatever to enter the BIOS setup utility when booting. Then go to the boot order and re-arrange it. If you have any questions, just ask.

Thank You Ad’s!

Published by nucklearknight under Random Edit This

I’m actually not totally against the adds on my blog site. I did post a while back a article on how to block ad’s using a Firefox extension and got a snappy e-mail from the today.com crew telling me to stop bitching about it and to realize that my site makes money based on adds so it’s all about the adds. PLUS they started putting ads up that are really relevant to what I’m talking about. I love Lenovo computers and I think they are a FANTASTIC choice for a laptop since they are very sturdy and great performers. They aren’t exactly shiny or flashy but they sure as hell get the job done.

Thank you Today.com crew for putting up good ad’s on my page! Go Lenovo!
(Pst, Lenovo. I can do this more often if you put me on the payroll…)

Girl is pwned by Ubuntu

I just read an article about a girl that got totally owned by a Dell laptop she bought that was pre-loaded with Ubuntu. It’s a really funny story if you know anything about computers since she just needed it for Microsoft Office and Internet. The setup CD for her internet didn’t work and she couldn’t be bothered to click on the wireless connection icon and select her network. Then she failed to realize that Open Office saved Microsoft Office documents just fine. And THEN, she called the freaking news crew! Why the hell would you call a news crew if your having computer problems. It just doesn’t make any sense! But anyways, they helped her out and now she’s on her way to college again!

External HD Lego Case

Published by nucklearknight under Computers Edit This

I have a 320 GB external hard drive made by iomega. When left on for a long period of time it generates quite a bit of heat, which isn’t good since I don’t think it should be that hot. So I decided to make a different case for it, a case made out of legos. I have a lot of legos lying around and so I built a case for my external HD. I glued most of the pieces on and drilled some holes in the bottom to allow me to secure the had drive to it. Ten I soldered some wires to the pins for the USB connector to give a small fan some power and I mounted that at one end so it blows air over the hard drive. I also pulled some heatsinks off of an old graphics card that didn’t work and slapped them on there. So far it’s stayed pretty cool. Here are some pictures.
